Elizabeth Wilson McFadden Ross, a native of Ireland who came to Dearborn, Michigan when she was 17. Married to Nathaniel Ross in 1859, she had seven children, of whom only three lived to adulthood. One daughter, Ellen Ramsay Ross, also made quilts before she died of tuberculosis at the age of 15. In 1883 the Rosses moved to new living quarters made from the former powder magazine of the Dearborn Arsenal. Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ross, left the family home, its contents, and land to the city of Dearborn.
