Essay:
Quilt with appliqued lines of text conveying the reasons the artist "Wants to stitch". The quilt is pieced with horizontal strips of cotton fabric, hand dyed and tie dyed. It has a red vertical border on the left side and a black border on the right side. Red binding. Text in block lettering is fused onto the quilt, and close lines of horizontal machine quilting are stitched over the lettering. The text of the quilt reads: I Want to stitch - Art Quilts Defined by pattern shape and colour Viewed as art by art collectors I want to stitch quilts As a reflection of our past Imparting Context and Values Tear mend muse layer fuse quilt Quilts using recycled materials as A medium for addressing political And social issues I want to stitch 1000 white teepees As a testament to love not war Thoughts that lie too deep for tears Quilts that stimulate my peers I want to stitch - quilts That are worth more than gold That keep the homeless warm That swathe a new born babe That bring back memories That are here when I am gone I want to stitch Quilts
