Crazy-style on foundation. Batting not visible. Backing and border added at a later date. The embroidered motifs on the quilt are exceptionally strong in color choice and skill level. Most were probably made using hot-iron transfer patterns or the maker copied printed motifs to the fabric. Some motifs are unfinished and the penciling is still visible.

Mrs. Prettiman was something of a "Southern Belle" and enjoyed the luxury of having servants to cook and clean. Therefore she was free to take time and sew the individual scraps of material together for the quilt top.
