Some of the print fabrics are from the late 1800s, but such a quilt might have been made in the early 1900s. Home-dyeing of fabrics for quilts was quite common in the late 19th and early 20th century North Carolina.

Quilted by hand in concentric circles over the pieced rays in the sunburst blocks and in parallel lines in the background of the blocks. The backing is cotton dyed brown with black walnut hulls. The background fabrics used in the wheels might have all been dyed the same color of deep red, but some fabrics faded faster than others.
