Features or notes about the quilt's appearance, materials, or construction:
The following information was supplied by the quiltmaker: If your quilt is based on a traditional pattern or an earlier quilt, what is the name of the pattern? "A Tiffany stained glass window" Where did you learn the pattern? "From a small picture of the window." How did you choose the materials used in your quilt? "Silk seemed the only choice to give the iridescent look of stained glass. I also used cotton for the 'leading' to give it some stability." A statement of "putting my bout with cancer behind me." How long have you been making quilts? How did you learn to quilt? "I started in 1967 and have tried many other hobbies but quilting has always been my first love. Now I just concentrate on quilting. There were not the books, classes, etc. then, so I taught myself using scraps from sewing for my family. My first quilt was made of polyester double knit squares and hand quilted." What was your primary reason for entering the Lands' End contest? Do you frequently enter your quilts in competition? "It was a quilt that exceeded in beauty all the pictures of it in my mind. I couldn't quilt for 6 months and planned this quilt in my mind. It only too 6 weeks to do. I wanted to share my joy at its beauty and my recovery." Has being a winner in the Land's End contest made a difference in your life? Has it changed the way you look at your work as a quilt maker? "Yes. I gained a feeling that I was an artist not just a craftsman."
