Features or notes about the quilt's appearance, materials, or construction:

The following information was supplied by the quiltmaker: If your quilt is based on a traditional pattern or an earlier quilt, what is the name of the pattern? Where did you learn the pattern? "This quilt was inspired by an antique quilt, believed to have been made in Missouri in the 1930s. My quilt uses the idea of pastel floral applique in a framework on a black ground, but the floral patterns and quilting are much different." How did you choose the materials used in your quilt? "I began by collecting vintage Depression-era fabric scraps for the applique. In the early 1990s fabric manufacturers began printing reproductions, so I blended new fabric with the old." How long have you been making quilts? How did you learn to quilt? "Since about 1984. I took classes through quilt shops and self-taught." What was your primary reason for entering the Lands' End contest? Do you frequently enter your quilts in competition? "As a personal challenge. I seldom enter competitions." Has being a winner in the Land's End contest made a difference in your life? Has it changed the way you look at your work as a quilt maker? "No."
