The following information was supplied by the quiltmaker: Other materials used include: "sequins, yarn and felt." How did you choose the materials used in your quilt? "The materials were recycled from previous craft projects. In addition, the students brought in small pieces of cloth that held some meaning or value to them." This quilt was made to "create a group project." "Some of our ESL students expressed an interest in sewing. The quilt enabled us to teach these skills and create a project that unified our divers student population. Some of the cultures represented included Hispanic, Haitian, Ukrainian, Hindi, Vietnamese and American. This was our first quilt." What was your primary reason for entering the Lands' End contest? Do you frequently enter your quilts in competition? "The theme of the contest fit our quilt so perfectly that we felt compelled to enter." Has being a winner in the Land's End contest made a difference in your life? Has it changed the way you look at your work as a quilt maker? "The students were very proud that their quilt was selected as a winner and this heightened their self-esteem."
