Features or notes about the quilt's appearance, materials, or construction:

The following information was supplied by the quiltmaker: If your quilt is based on a traditional pattern or an earlier quilt, what is the name of the pattern? Where did you learn the pattern? "One of the blocks used is a traditional 'Evening Star' block," learned "from books on quilting." Other techniques used include: painted/stenciled design "using fabric washing machine-safe paints." How did you choose the materials used in your quilt? "Some materials were leftover sewing scraps, a couple of the fabrics were purchased because I liked the rich, earthy colors (orange and deep brown fabrics), and the unbleached muslin was purchased for economic reasons -- especially for the printed 'moon' blocks and the backing, where a lot of fabric was needed, but where the fabric wouldn't be seen." How long have you been making quilts? How did you learn to quilt? "About 4 years now. I'm self-taught (I started with a book on quilting by quilter Trudie Hughes), lots of trials and lots of errors!" What was your primary reason for entering the Lands' End contest? Do you frequently enter your quilts in competition? "My primary purpose for entering the Lands' End contest was creative challenge, and the possibility of maybe winning one of the smaller prizes. I've only entered 2 contests, to date." Has being a winner in the Land's End contest made a difference in your life? Has it changed the way you look at your work as a quilt maker? "It has given me more confidence -- much needed since I haven't been quilting very long and I don't have any close friends or family members with quilting experience to help me!"
