Donor Information:Bedspread quilted by Mrs. Sarah Hull Ufford about 1830. She was the niece and adopted daughter of Commodore Issac Hull, and the quilt was made in his house. It was from this house on the banks of the Housatonic river at Huntington Landing, Connecticut, that Commodore Hull went forth to win a brilliant record in the history of our country. Presented by the Sarah Riggs Humphreys Chapter Derby, Connecticut. [typed note attached to quilt top]. Commodore Hull served in the Navy and was remembered as the commander of the USS Constitution during the War of 1812. Hull was married to Anna Hart of Saybrook in 1813. Hull had no children. He retired to Philadelphia and died there in 1843. He is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery. (See paper file)
