Donor history states "Quilted bedspread made by Miss Ann Pamela Cunningham, founder of Mount Vernon Ladies' Association of the Union. Spread made by Miss Cunningham who was an invalid, prior to her work with the Association. Born in 1818, Miss Cunningham was crippled when thrown from a horse when she was about 18. Spread was family heirloom, passed down to Mrs. Floride Cuningham Burney, co-donor, great-niece of the maker. Miss Cunningham lived at Rosemont Plantation, Laurens County, South Carolina." Notes in paper file say that Miss Cunningham was born in 1816 and she was thrown from the horse at the age of 17. The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association of the Union was founded in 1853. Miss Cunningham died in 1875. Cunningham is seen spelled with either one or two "n's." Mrs. Burney spells "Cunningham" as "Cuningham."
