QUILT INDEX RECORD

18-14-20

Description:

This unfinished top uses a pattern called Giant Dahlia designed by Hubert Ver Mehren/Home Art Studios of Des Moines, Iowa and offered through Needlecraft Magazine in 1935 as both a pattern and a kit, and also as a pattern in newspaper ads. Giant Dahlia became his most widely copied quilt design. Gasperik probably bought the pattern and made her own fabric selections. Ver Mehren designed square quilts, and Gasperik was determined to make rectangular quilts. This created problems for her.
