This Looking West quilt was made by Gretchen B. Hill in 1997. It measures 62" x 19-1/2" and is a wall hanging art quilt. This is an original design and was machine quilted. Predominant colors are multi on the front are pinks, yellow, brown, purple, green and multi; orange and pink print on the back. Gretchen B. Hill has had many quilts displayed in shows and is a published author. This is a landscape/sunset and sky - multi colored small pieces with various sizes and shapes. There is an illusion of a sunset, mountains and foothills in dark greens, greys and purples. Edge is 3/8" straight of grain, double fold machine top and hand back, mitered. Backing is orange with white and orange with black two separate fabrics. Binding is pieced to match and continue the scene. Gretchen Hill is a founding mother of the Front Range Contemporary Quilters. Her quilts are published and she exhibits often including Visions in 1998. This quilt is one of 64 art quilts that make up the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum's Rooted in Tradition Collection, which is on traveling exhibit throughout the USA through 2008.
