Some applique has outline 1/4" and echo around applique. Also feathered wreath on plain blocks. Applique blocks have diagonal grid around applique. The plain blocks also have single feather wreath with feathers on outside. There is the same diagonal grid inside the wreath and outside to the edge of the blocks, the grids inside the wreath and outside to the edge of the blocks. The grids in the applique and plain blocks are continuous. The borders have diagonal lines.

This quilt comes to the quilt owner with an oral history only. According to her mother-in-law, Mary Grace Skeels Way, it was made for her maternal grandfather, Orrin Adolphus Augustus Gardner by his first wife, Mary Stone Gardner. The patterned blocks were made by neighbors, including one man. Mary pieced and quilted and bound it and sent it to Orrin, who was fighting in the Civil War. After the war, Orrin decided to moved to Kansas and Mary refused to moved. They divorced. This is the only mention of Mary, she is not even listed in the family Bible or any family trees.
