She Has Arranged Her Trip in a Different Form
Imagine! She Thinks She Is Old!
Here is Mrs. Cordelia Reed trying hard to get her quilt finished for The Detroit News Quilt Show, which is to be held in the United States Naval Armory, October 18,19, and 20. Mrs. Reed has two other quilts, which she may also enter. She is going to do her part to make this the largest quilt show.

By Edith B. Crumb

Just imagine that! Mrs. Cordelia Reed, 23244- Sunnyside Avenue Detroit, writes to ask if she is too old to join the Quilt Club Corner and she is only 65! Even when quilt-makers are 92 and 93 they do not admit they are anything but young and spry. So there is no reason why Mrs. Reed should not belong to the Corner and her name has certainly been included in the membership list, which is getting very, very long and interesting.

Here you see her sewing away on her quilt, putting a few finishing touches in it and then she will fold it carefully and tuck it away until time to bring it down to the main office of The Detroit News, second and Lafayette, which must not be done any earlier than October 1 nor later than October 12.

Has Three Quilts
The quilt as shown is the Trip Around the World put together in a very different style that that to which we are accustomed; and she also has a Dresden Plat as well as a Double Monkey Wrench quilt made from News patterns.

So, now we hope to have Mrs. Reed enter all three of her quilts and I know that if she visits the show the first day she will want to come to the other two.

A Loyal Member
Dear Miss Crumb: I want to join the Quilt Club. I have been quilting for three years. I have completed five quilts, have number six ready for the frames and am now working on the seventh and eighth.

I haven't a quilt that could possiblt win a prize but I may enter one any way. It will be a thrilling to find my quilt among so many and will help to make the exhibit more interesting.
Mrs. J.T. Forshee
310Kitchener Ave
Detroit, Mich.

Now, that is what I call loyalty - for Mrs. Forshee to feel that she has a quilt which could not take a prize and yet she wants to do her part to make the exhibit more interesting. That is a fine spirit, Mrs. Forshee, and you don't know how I appreciate receiving that letter. I wish you would enter five or six.

You must not be so modest about your accomplishments. Perhaps you might have a prize or ribbon winner without realizing it. Thank you so much for that letter which makes me so happy.

About Cleaning Quilt
Dear Miss Crumb- It has been some time since I have written to the Corner. I have not done any work on my quilts since last winter but as soon as we have some cooler weather I am going to get busy.

I was not able to attend either of the quilt shows but want to attend the one this fall.

I have a quilt to enter. I was a year and a half making it (but pieced thre tops and quilted four tops during that time). I had to do all the housework for from six to 11 so did not have much time for my quilts.

The one I want to enter is somewhat soiled from lying around. Will it be alright to have it dry cleaned? It has never been used.
Mrs. Everett Manchester
Route No. 1
Clinton, Mich.

We are happy to know that you are planning on entering a quilt in the show- but why not enter all of those tops and finished quilts also? Of course, the quilt you were so long the making may be dry cleaned. If the materials are all fast colors don't you think that it would be a good idea to wash it.

I think you did remarkably well to accomplish so much in the quilt making line when you had so many household duties to attend to.

Now, please do all possible to attend the show. I am sorry that you missed the other two , but we promise you an interesting time this year, so do not disappoint us.

Wants to Join
Dear Miss Crumb: I have listened in on your broadcast, also attended quilting parties and received patters from The Detroit News; but through it all I have said or done nothing to put me in good standing, so today I am going to start by asking you to please enter my name in your long lost. I am surely thankful for this and won't keep so still from now on.
Mrs. Katie Heim
6037 Philip Ave
Detroit, Mich.

You have never been considered in anything but good standing. Mrs. Heim, but it is a pleasure to add your name to cur list and I hope that you will have quilts or tops or both to enter in the show and that you will attend, for I know that you will find it very interesting.
