Martha L. Durkee Blakeslee is the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Beardslee Durkee, the mother of Emma Quarton and the grandmother of Betty Quarton Hoard.

The later quilts by Martha Blakeslee include many shirtings of reds, clarets, indigos, cadet blues and blacks popular at the turn of the century. Colored prints with a white resist design were also commonly used.

Martha L. Durkee Blakeslee was married to Frank Blakeslee of Birmingham, Michigan. They owned a Dry Goods store in the 1870s.
