Martha learned to quilt sometime in the 1980s. She joined the Quilter's Sew-Ciety of Redding and actively participated in the guild until she passed away. She gave classes, demos and was chair for many jobs within the guild. She went to local quilt shows with other quilters, attended quilting retreats, took classes and worked on opportunity quilts. She made quilts for her family, friends and for donations.

Her favorite method of applique involved glue basting the seam allowances in advance, so the applique shape was ready for stitching. She used a Singer Featherweight for her machine piecing.

Martha belonged to several small groups. She was a founding member of the Thursday Sew 'N Sews, she belonged to Sunday Sew and the Tuesday Night Threaders. She also went to local quilt shops for their drop in sewing days.
