Details on how you got the quilt:

Inherited from mother Bessie Randall; Owner's great niece, Michelle Stapleton will be 6th generation owner. All generations lived entire life within 10 mi. of place quilt was made. Was kept for years carefully folded between mattresses.

Do you know how old the maker was when the quilt was made?

The maker was 22 years old when the quilt was made.

There were many other quilts. Four are in good condition. This owner has two, sister has two. Another just like it owned by Walter Plunkett, another great-grandson. There is a picture of the quiltmaker. Owner has a letter written to maker from her husband in 1862 while in Confederate army.

What did he do for a living?

Bodie was a farmer, killed in Civil War 1862. Plunkett was a farmer.

5/1/1899

Did the quiltmaker have children? How many?

5 (3 from first marriage; 2 from second). Three of her children were given unusual names: "America," "Darling," "Love."

Was this quilt made for a particular person?

I discovered another quilt at Aiken's first show - exactly like this one - owned by a great grandson. Could have made one for each child.

Are there any interesting stories about the quiltmaker?

Her pictures and quilts suggest that she was a very "prim" lady.
