Commemorative Quilts at Century of Progress Exposition

1934
Waldvogel Ephemera Collection; Waldvogel Archival Collection

Sears organized a special showing on quilts made in the theme of the Century of Progress. These three show how the quilters interpreted the theme. Of the three, only the center quilt has been identified. Ida Stow of Park Ridge, IL made the quilt. While the commemorative quilts required much more time, labor, and ingenuity than the traditional quilts, most judges did not look favorably on them. Only two commemorative quilts reached the final round, but neither won a national prize.
