...ground if finished alike and an antique ivory ??? be a good selection for these.

For the floor covering large and small-sized hooked rugs would be appropriate and practical, conventional designs being in the best taste for this type of room.

For the window treatment there may be nothing more than traverse curtains of light ecru ca???? cloth, roller shades not even being being required.

The wide window sill allows for the plating of small bits of statuary and plants, and in the open bookshelves the various colored bindings lend the richness to the room that only bindings are capable of doing. There may be a wing chair with a covering of small repeat desing cut velvet, green and gold being the colors; and a stool to match this would add to the comfort of the chair.

Small arm chairs with ladder backs and rush seats may have cushions covered in small pattern chintz, very dark red being the ground for the material; and for those chairs which show the French provincial influence there may be quilted coverings for cushions.

If one wished more color for the background of a room of this type the walls and woodwork might be very light green, the glass curtains the same as suggested for the first scheme, draperies of wine red moire reaching to the floor giving the room a more dignified appearance.

For the floor covering there may be a plain rug to match the color of the draperies.

The furniture coverings might be in green and gold and a touch of blacl brought out in the bindings and boxings.

Parchment yellow walls, ecru glass curtains, black ground flowered cretonne, deep wine red rug and furniture coverings in green would sure make a delightful scheme.

Tint for Ceiling.

We intedn to paint the walls of our living room fawn or light blue and would like to know what color to paint the cove and ceiling.

The ceiling and side walls are antique plaster and the cove is smooth.

The cove may be finished in a lighter tint of buff or fawn than the walls and the ceiling may be cream; thus shading your room from a deeper tint at the bottom to light at the top.

Quilting Designs For Garden Spread

All who have made the Flower Garden quilt blocks are, no doubt, looking for quilting patterns and this week's leaflet has designs and suggestions for this.

Many have written in and asked for quilting suggestions and this leaflet is in answer to those requests.

There is a suggestion for the quilting of each block, a choice of two designs for the long strips and also a conventional motif for the squares formed at the intersections of the joining strips.

If you wish to have this leaflet mailed to you. just send your request for it to the Beauty in the Home Department, The Detroit News, enclosing with it a self-addressed, stamped envelope, or you may obtain it by calling personally at The Detroit News Public Service Bureau in either the General Motors Building or the Majestic Building.
