...Room in Attic May Be Very Charming

by Edith B. Crumb
This department seeks to give assistance to all who are interested in beautifying their homes and will be glad to answer questions pertaining to interior decoration. In order to serve all who, seek advice promptly no more than three problems will be discussed in any one reply. Readers are invited to write to this department as often as they wish, but to limit each letter to three questions. State your question clearly write on only one side of the paper, enclosing a self-addressed, stamped envelope and address Beauty in the Home department, Detroit News. crem muslin, and the over-draperies of green ground flowered chintz with small bud design in rose, yellow and black.

The floor covering there might be small sized hooked or braided rugs, and the furniture could, of course, be of the old style and if it does not match is really very much more charming than a so-called "set."

The pieces as shown are in keeping with a quaint scheme and the bedspread - an appliqued quilt - is one of the most ideal selections that could have been made.

There might be slip covers for the upholstered chair seats of material to match the draperies: and the simple oil-burning type of lamp would be the best choice for the lighting fixture. This may be electrified and equipped with a chintz or paper shade.

My dearest friend was helping me quilt this morning so at 11:45 we turned the radio on and listened to your broadcast your message on quilts. We certainly did enjoy your talk and I understand you to say that for 9c in postage I could get the Flower Garden and Double Wedding Ring patterns. Please tell me how I might find our different names of quilt patterns you have.
Mrs. O.A.M
Birmingham, Mich.

Yes, 9c postage will take care of the pattern you wish. You see, the Flower Garden quilt has 22 leaflets and that is why the postage is more than the regulation 3c stamp.

The names of the quilts other than those you mention are: Lucky Four Leaf Clover, Handy Andy Dresden Plate, Prairie Queen, and Philadelphia Pavement. Peek a Boo Winged Square, Jacobs Ladder and Flying Cloud.

Have finished two quilts from news pattern- the Dresden Plate and the Double Wedding Ring. They are very beautiful. Have them quilted, too.

I am 77 years old and still love to make quilts. I was only two weeks and two days cutting and sewing by hand the Double Wedding Ring which I think was good time for one of my age. My home is in Tawas City, Michigan but I have been in Detroit this winter.
Mrs. S Connor

I not only think that was good time for anyone 77 years old but good time for any age. I do not see how you ever finish that quilt so quickly.
