...Laid Out..Accommodate Picture

by Edith B. Crumb
This department seeks to give assistance to all who are interested in beautifying their homes and will be glad to answer questions pertaining to interior decoration. In order to serve all who, seek advice promptly no more than three problems will be discussed in any one reply. Readers are invited to write to this department as often as they wish, but to limit each letter to three questions. State your question clearly write on only one side of the paper, enclosing a self-addressed, stamped envelope and address Beauty in the Home department, Detroit News. Letters with their answers will be published for the benefit of all homemakers but names and addresses will not be made public.

(clipping cut-off)...That might be occasioned by having to place the picture between two narrow panels. The two oblong ones below give balance to the arrangement.

And isn't the window just all one could possibly expect in a sunny cheery dining room? With one wide window in the center and two narrow ones on each side, it is impossible to use three pairs of glass curtains so just single ones have been used at the end windows. These are made of sheer cotton net and for the overdraperies linen with a green ground has been selected.

Although there is much said about not mixing woods, one can really put pine, cherry and mahogany or walnut together and still have a room that is charming, for if the pieces are old their charm will make them agreeable.

For the floor covering, either a hooked or braided rug would be appropriate and very pleasing, while the covering for the chairs may be of damask. Of course, these chairs being in the Chippendale style really do seem a bit formal for the table with which they are used, but there is always the chance of changing this piece to one of Sheraton style.

If the table is to stand as is, however, the chairs most appropriate for it would be Hitchcock, Windsor or ladderback and cushions might be provided for these and covered with the drapery material.

For the serving table or sideboard these might be another drop-leaf table and the small sewing table with drawers and drop-leaves will also fit into this kind of scheme.

Quilt Club Corner.
Can any of the members tell me how many yards of material it will take to make the Horoscope quilt as I have started one and cannot find the same shade of blue as I have already used? If I don't find it I will have to start my quilt all over again; and I certainly hate to do that. I am making it of blue and white broadcloth.

I have only six more plates to put on the background and when I will have my Dresden Plate quilt pretty well along. I want to get it quilted as soon as possible.

One of the tubes on our radio burned out so I did not hear the Quilt Club Corner on Wednesday and missed it very much.

I want to start on my Trip Around the World soon as I like pretty quilts so much.
Mrs. Pearl Price,

I certainly hope that you will be able to match the material you are using in your quilt for it would be very discouraging to have to start it all over again. That just shows that it is not safe to start a quilt without a sufficient amount of material for matching is almost impossible after a few weeks or months have passed. I do hope you will like your Trip Around the World. Drop the Corner another little note soon, please.

Chicken pie is delicious for supper, dinner or luncheon. A variety of seasonings, such as gree peppers, parsley, onion and pimento improve the flavor.
