…Room Dignified…Century Pieces

November 04, 1932

A portion of a Beauty in the Home column, with the Quilt Club Corner, discussing old quilts with a modern feel and the third pattern leaflet for The Horoscope Quilt.
...tive to leave thes without scarfs or runners, for the reflection of the decorative objects is enchanting and if one is careful to have these without scratchy surfaces which touch the table, there is little danger of damaging the finish.

Green might be substituted for the blue in this scheme, and an entirely different scheme is one with very light green walls, a plain gold floor covering, gold moire draperies, and green leather or velvet of the chair coverings. This green should be just a little deeper than the walls, but of the same "family" of green.

Furniture such as this may be used in a room which has scenic paper and that in the Chinoiserie effect would be very attractive.

A room of this type is by no means furnished when the furniture is placed in it, for it demands to make it complete, fine porcelain , sliver and ??? as that all may be in keeping with the spirit of the scheme.Pattern No. 3 of Horoscope Quilt
THE leaflet with pattern No. 3 of the Horoscope quilt has been prepared and is waiting for you and is waiting for you to send your request in for it and, of course, after having worked the first two designs, you will be very anxious to finish the block with the words on the third.

Just send your request for this to the Beauty in the Home Department, The Detroit News, enclosing with it a self-addressed, stamped envelope. If you prefer, you may call for this leaflet at The Detroit News Public Service Bureau in either the General Motors Building or the Majestic Building, where it will be given you free of charge.

Quilt Club Corner
MONTREAL, Quebec, is the home of our most recent club member and it is a pleasure to have her send in her application. Letters to the Club Corner are as follows:

PLEASE accept me as a member of your Quilt Club. I have made the Flower Garden quilt which I think is lovely. I have not quilted it yet, but it is all set together. I…(clipping cut off)
..ner. Don't forget to write to su again.

I would like to join you club. I have finished the Dresden Plate quilt and it is very pretty. I am eager to start the new quilt. I have been a reader of The News for years.

MRS. M. Q.
I know you will like the new pattern, Mrs. Q., and would be happy to have you as a member of the Club.

HAVE not been in Detroit long, but have already found your Beauty in the Home Column very helpful, and have taken inspiration from it to start my first quilt.
MRS. K. W. T.
My! What a nice note to receive, isn’t it, club members? That is the kind that starts the day out right.

I JUST finished one of your Double Wedding Ring quilts and it is very pretty.
MRS. F. R.

That is certainly a good task done, for there are so many tiny pieces in that pattern that it takes a long time to get it all put together. Happy to hear that you like it.

I ENJOYED making the Garden quilt very much, and my sister, to whom I gave this quilt, thought it was the prettiest pattern she had ever seen.
MRS. W. R.

I think you sister is one of the luckiest people I ever heard of, Mrs. R, to have a beautiful quilt like that given to her.

WOULD like to become a member of your quilt club. I think it is a wonderful idea and do so enjoy reading the letters each evening. I am making a Dresden Plate and expect to start the Horoscope pattern today. I have the first three patterns and think it is going to be very interesting.
MRS. K. H. S.
Glad to have you as a member, Mrs. S., and happy to know that you enjoy the Club Corner. All are becoming real well acquainted, judging from the letters.

I AM now working on my second Dresden Plate quilt. The first one I made to green and yellow and the second I am making in lavender and yellow.
MRS. W. B.

Those color combinations are very charming, Mrs. B., and I shall look forward to seeing one of them at the Quilt Club exhibit.
