Old-Time Nosegay - Leaflet No. 10

By Edith B. Crumb.

Here is your autumn friend, the cosmos, as big as life and just as handsome in the middle of this bouquet, the ninth of the series of 12. After we finish the 12 center blocks, then we start on the border which has a series of single flowers ranged primly in order with a perky bowknot trying each one and holding it in place. That border will be fun to make, but before we can get to that we must work on the big and luscious bouquets which make the center portion of the quilt.

In cutting the patterns for the pieces in this block, remember that petal No. 16 is repeated 8 times for the cosmos. As shown in the picture only half of the upper and lower petal is given but each one is really a repetiton of No. 16.

The cosmos is cut from pink print. The center is plain, light green. The lemon lily, Nos. 9 and 11, are cut from small yellow and white check. No. 10 is cut from plain yellow. The Canterbury bells, Nos. 12 and 13, are made of plain lavender with figured henna tops (Nos. 15 and 13).

The forget-me-nots, Nos. 6, 7 and 8, are in blue and pink, No. 6 being in pink and Nos. 7 and 8 in blue. The leaves are in two shades of green which have been used for all the lower parts of the bouquets made thus far.

The bowknot is yellow with polka dots in blue.

The stamens of the lily are worked in green embroidery cotton. The centers of the forget-me-nots are in soft yellow cotton.
