Old-Time Nosegay - Leaflet No. 12

By Edith B. Crumb.

Right in the center of this block is a lovely pansy which really seems to be smiling. The back part of the petals are to be in lavender and for the lower part of petals Nos. 13 and 14 figured yellow is suggested. These are 14-A and 13-A. No. 12 is purple.

The gentian at the top should be worked out in three shades of soft henna and yellow orange. The petals closest to the pansy should be in the darkest shade. The middle ones may be in the medium shade and the top ones in the lightest.

The harebell may be of blue figured material for No. 9 and plain blue for No. 10. That unnumbered pistil in the center will be prettiest when appliqued of yellow material.

Forget-me-not No. 8 is pink, and 6 and 7 are blue.

For the bowknot, try to find a striped material which has some white, henna and lavender in it.

In making the gentian at the top, there are 18 petals cut of the shape and size as the one marked "11." The varying sizes are obtained by placing one petal on top of another, overlapping some much more than others.

This flower is "tricky" to make, but beautiful when the colors are graded and the small pieces neatly appliqued.
