Old-Time Nosegay - Leaflet No. 20
By Edith B. Crumb.
Here is the poppy, the sixth flower for the border strip. It is not repeated in the bottom border strip, so you need make only two of them. Reminder that small patterned prints are much more effective in a quilt than the large ones and that prints with a large amount of white background are lost when appliqued on the quilt. Pastel colored backgrounds are usually more effective.
The poppy may be appliqued of soft orange or an apricot tint. Since it is being placed next to the wild rose that is developed in pink it seems wise to avoid a harsh orange color for the petals.
The center may be of green or of brown or, if the poppy is made from a yellow print, it may have tawny orange shades in it.
