Letters From Workers Will Be Broadcast Over WWJ Every Wednesday Morning at 11:45. Listen for an Interesting Message From “The Corner.”

By EDITH B. CRUMB.

BEFORE starting the Quilt Club Letters there are a few points that should be cleared. Several have written to ask how much it costs to belong to the Club, what one does to belong, just when the contest is to take place, and all the particulars relative to this.

Now, it does not cost one cent to belong to the club. If you have already made a quilt from a Detroit News pattern, you are eligible or if you send for a pattern and make one now, you are also eligible, and if either of these cases covers you just fill out the membership blank and send it in to the Beauty in the Home Department, The Detroit News.

Anyone from any city or state may belong—and there are now a good many states represented; and lastly, the date has not yet been set for the contest, and cannot be until the final pattern for the Horoscope quilt has been sent out. After that you will be given plenty of time to finish your quilt entirely. Just watch the Beauty in the Home column in order to keep up with the Quilt Club news. Everyone who belongs to the Club, or intends to do so, is invited to write a letter to the Quilt Club Corner which is included in the women’s pages of The Detroit News every Sunday and several days each week.

And listen to the Quilt Club Corner broadcast every Wednesday at 11:45. If you wish to have your letter read, please mention it, and get it in as early as possible.

Here are some of the letters which may be of interest to you today:

PLEASE tell me how I can get the quilt patterns as I am interested in making quilts and enjoy the letters and the exchange of ideas about The News patterns.
MRS. A. H.
Portland, Ind.

All you have to do to receive the quilt patterns is drop a little note to the Beauty in the Home Department and request the ones you wish, sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Three may be sent in each envelope. If, however, you wish the Flower Garden quilt, for which there are 21 different patterns, please send just 9 cents in stamps and they will be sent to you in one large envelope.

I HAVE been reading your Quilt Club Corner for quite some time and I am very interested in quilts. I wonder if you could help me. I would like to make a quilt for my little girl’s bed. She is 10 years old and id o not know what would be a nice pattern.

This is my first attempt at quiltmaking, so I do not know much about them. I have been in Detroit a little over a year, coming from the East and so have a lot of time on my hands.

Please let me know if there is any cost. I have looked all over the paper, but can’t see anything about price. Will get the Wonder Package next week.
MRS. G. A. C.

In your envelope I have sent three patterns—the Dresden Plate, Lucky Four-Leaf Clover and Double Wedding Ring. Any one of these would be appropriate for your little girl’s bed; but I would prefer the Clover pattern. Not only is it very attractive, but it is easy to make. My next choice is the Dresden Plate and then the Double Wedding ring. These last two are very attractive, but the Dresden Plate I the easier to make and that is why I mentioned it before the Double Wedding Ring.

Of course, there is never any price for the quilt patterns offered by The Detroit News—nothing more required than a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

I ENJOY reading the letters telling how the different members piece their quilts. I pieced three several years ago and ma going to try again. I have five in the family to do for and do quite a bit of sewing.

I am sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the Dresden Plate, Prairie Queen and Horoscope quilt patterns. If you don’t have all of these, please send some nice patterns.
MRS. K. C. B.
Findlay, Ohio.

If you sew for five you should have a good many bits of material that will work into quilts very beautifully.

In your envelope I have sent the Dresden Plate, Prairie Queen and one leaflet for the Horoscope quilt. There are 13 so far and one more to be sent for each week until completed. But inasmuch as you have sent but one envelope I am usable to send you but one of them. If this looks interesting to you, just send in your request, accompanied by sufficient postage, for those you would like.

I WOULD love to be a member of the famous Quilt Club. I have never done any quilting but can do fancy needle-work. Will you please send me some pattern that would have lots of yellow in it? Best wishes to all of the members.
MRS. E. B. S.

I have sent two patterns to you, the Dresden Plate and the Double Wedding Ring and hope that you like quilt-making so well that you will make both of them. You can arrange the colors so that yellow will predominate in either design.

I WOULD like to be enrolled as a member of the Beauty in the Home Quilt Club. I am starting on my first quilt and I am quite sure I will find it more interesting as I go forward.
MRS. W. S.

Oh, yes—the more quilt-making you do the more fascinating it becomes and you will find, after a time, that you will not be happy unless you have one or two quilts in the making. You will wonder what you ever did with your time before you took up piecing. Just drop us a little line, after you get started and let us know, please.

WILL you please explain about the Horoscope patterns? Is there more than one pattern in the quilt, and if so how can I get them?

I have taken the Sunday News for a number of years and am very interested in making quilts, as I always have made some each winter. I have made the Double Wedding Ring and many other pretty ones.
MRS. F. H.
Newago, Mich.

The Horoscope quilt is made up in a series of which 13 have already been distributed, one more to be sent out each week until completed. If you will send 9 cents in stamps, those which you have missed will be sent out to you.
