Brother-Sister Quilts-Leaflet No. 10

By Edith B. Crumb.

Aren't you glad to get back to these little dolls again? You are probably bored with making prams and more prams and will enjoy a change.

First of all, let's name this doll. And let's think of a good old-fashioned name. All right, we'll call her Matilda.

She will have yellow hair, blue eyes, yellow puff sleeves, lavender and white checked pinafore, brown shoes and yellow socks. Only a Matilda would wear a pinafore so I think she is well named.

Remember that the underlapping pieces are seldom shaped but left with straight lines. This makes it easier to keep pieces firm and free from fraying.

First the face is pinned and basted in place. The hair goes on next, slipping the raw edge of the right side of the face under the wavy locks.

Then the arms are placed. Next the legs are pinned and basted. The puff sleeves go next and then the dress. The collar of pale yellow now goes on, and then the socks, the shoe and lastly the sole.

This block is to be repeated for use later in the lower part of the quilt.

The eyes are embroidered in yellow and the lips in red.

If you desire other colors for the dolls they may be changed. But be sure that materials are color fast and do not select large patterned or figured materialss for the body of the dresses. Small designs are in keeping with the small dolls.

Please notice that this doll faces in the opposite direction from the dolls in the top row. One row faces one way and the second one the other.
