Laurel Wreath Quilt - Leaflet No. 11
Hooded Warble

In making this bird, the hood is one piece; the bill is another, the wing a third and the tail a fourth. Then there is the fat, plump body for the fifth and then the two legs make seven pieces in all. The eye may be embroidered.

Be sure to allow an eighth of an inch for turning under the raw edges. The block on which this bird is to be appliqued should measure 12 1/2x12 1/2 inches square.

The embroidery on the bird's eye should be done in satin stitch. The legs may be brown and you will find that brightly colored checks or small patterned calicos will be just right for the body, wings and head.
