Laurel Wreath Quilt - Leaflet No. 24
Mallow

The size of this Mallow is rather modest for usually this flower flaunts its petals to the breeze in a gay and generous manner; so this might be conisdered a dwarf mallow.

The color is pink. In a flower of this type where the petals overlap and are all of the same general shape it might be wise to use a material designed something like that shown in the illustration - a herringbone style or striped pattern. If you use a plain or a small figured material then it is best to outline the petals rather heavily in a thread of a darker shade than that of the material. Of if you don't want to outline it you might put a line of dark material similar to a cording, only there will be no cord - just a line of dark color. This helps to set one petal apart from another. If you use striped material try to cut the pieces so that the stripes go in the right direction for each petal. The design as given on the leaflet is a good example.

This flower is to be appliqued to a 10 1/2x12 1/2 block; and when putting it in place take care to have it approximately in the position shown in the small drawing.

The center of the flower may be of deep rose or of pale green. Either one would be effective.
