World's Fair Rose Quilt Pattern

Since this year we have the unusual situation of a World's Fair in session at both of the extremes of our continent, it will be interesting to say later, "The year we had two World's Fairs at the same time, I started my World's Fair Rose Quilt." For though the great fairs may likely be all over with when the finishing touches are put to the quilt, a good quilt design is always in good taste.

A beautiful quilt is always lovely to look at, no matter what the name of the quilt pattern, but the "World's Fair Rose" seems to be a timely name for this pattern.

Whether a brilliant color-scheme like two shades of red and two shades of green is used, or a pastel scheme such as pinks and light greens, this pretty block will stand out to advantage if used with alternating blocks of plain material.

The blocks are small (eight inches square), so a quilt measuring 84 by 100 inches requires 50 pieced blocks and 49 plain ones. This size allows for a border of six inches wide all around the quilt.

Materials required:
3 1/4 yards for alternating blocks.
2 1/4 yards for six-inch border all around.
7 yards for the back.
3/4 yard for rose petals.
1/2 yard for center of roses.
1 1/2 yards light green for leaves.
3 yards for background (parts of block which are neither rose nor leaves).
6 yards narrow braid for stems of roses.
