For Her Hope Chest

Miss Miriam Thomas, 3008 Garland avenue, has a quilt of the Dogwood Pattern which has just been finished for her by her grandmother, Mrs. Magaretha Thomas, who has been a member of the Detroit News quilt club for several years.
By Edith B. Crumb

For years Mrs. Margartha Thomas, 3008 Garland avenue, came to the Quilt Club Corner meetings just because she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and chatting, but she never thought she would make a quilt.

But one day she decided that that was the thing to do, so she started off and became so interested that it did not take long to finish the top.

By the time it was completed she thought, like the others, that she ought to go right on and make more.

The illustration shows the second quilt which she pieced (which was quilted by Mrs. Florence Garvey, 8689 Winfield avenue). This has a soft peach background with the Dogwood design in ivory and green.

This quilt she made for her grand-daughter, Miriam Thomas, who also lives at 3008 Garland avenue. Miram cherishes this quilt and is going to wrap it up carefully and put it in her hope chest.

Yesterday's meeting was a busy one, starting with a rush by everybody to the big center table to select patches which were brought in by Mrs. Charles Voelker.

Mrs. Eva Schaub wishes to thank everyone who was so kind to her on her birthday. She said that she never had such a wonderful day. She had many cards, all kinds of gifts and a round dozen handkerchiefs.

The new members who joined yesterday were Mrs. Helen Weise, 13793 Ardmore avenue; Mrs. Lily Williams, 131 Elmhurst avenue, Highland Park, and her neighbor, Mrs. Gertrude Zimmer, 129 Elmhurst avenue, Highland Park.

Mrs. Sarah A. Watkins, 794 E. Grand boulevard reports that her daughter, Mrs. James O'Dell, has been visiting her for two weeks and has just left for her home in Denver, Colorado. We hope that Mrs. Watkins will be able to come to the Cornerite meetings every Friday afternoon.

Mrs. Sylvia Carlen brought the good news that our friend, Mrs. Sadie Lanstra, 1640 LeMay avenue, has just returned from the hospital today. Be sure to drop her a card.
