Gay Stars Appliqued on Quilt for Benefit
By Edith B. Crumb

Yesterday was a busy day for the Cornerites, Mrs. Steve Vida, 2393 Springwells avenue, brought a quilt top which she has just finished. It was made of white blocks joined together with yellow stripe and green squares at the intersections. In the center of each large block was an appliqued six-pointed star.

No two stars were alike - some plain materials and others were of small patterned percales. Each point in every start has no duplicate in color or design but the centers of all were of small round yellow disks.

Mrs. Vida furnished all of the material for this. She will quilt it and then donate it to the First Hungarian Evangelical and Reformed Church, West End and Vanderbilt avenues. The quilt will be sold by the church and the money turned over to the treasurer. The sale will not take place until some time in January so Mrs. Vida has plenty of time to complete her lovely quilt

Mrs. Mary Jones brought a box of candy to treat us in celebration of her birthday and Mrs. Sara Watkins brought in another box. With Mrs. Watkins came her friend, Mrs. Margaret Kern, 794 East Grand Blvd. Mrs. Kern joined the club and we hope that she will come every Friday afternoon.

Another new member was Mrs. Velma Reghi, 1629 Alter road. She was making an unusually attractive quilt of appliqued flowers fashioned of small scraps of material. Before the afternoon was over Mrs. Henry C. Reinhold had taken off the pattern and had one block started.

Mrs. Mary Louise Laferty, 15851 14th street, also joined yesterday afternoon. She keeps busy making crocheted medallions for a table cover and we hope to see this grow rapidly from week to week.

Mrs. Marion Ridler had about 25 hats with her, but they were no burden because they were such tiny things that they could be stacked in a small dress box without crowding. She has made over a hundred and they are to be sold at the Nancy's Belle's bazar.
