Cornerites Already Busy Making Christmas GiftsBy Edith B. Crumb

All this talk about Christmas being so near seemed far fetched until I walked into the Quilt Club Corner meeting yesterday afternoon and then I knew that preparations for it were in full swing.

Mrs. A. Klein has her Christmas gift making on a production basis and before the afternoon session was over she had a completed luncheon set to put away for some lucky friend.

Her method is to wheedle her friends into helping her; but it wasn't difficult because she was working on such gay material that everyone wanted to help.

For the luncheon set she was using white ground material with a small bright floral design and each of the four napkins was in a different color. Mrs. Klein made the cloth and four friends each made a napkin. All pieces were finished with fringed borders.

Mrs. Marion Ridler and Mrs. Mary Jones were busy cutting a pattern from a new apron and next week I expect to see a few made from it.

Mrs. Ridler was planning to start one right away. Said that she had enough material. It has a ruffle across the bottom, the skirt is gored so as to fit snugly and there is a pert ruffle on each shoulder. These ruffles are of white embroidery and a small ruffle of this is also used to trim the end of each apron string.

Mrs. Gertrude Nawrotzke, 8628 Ellsworth avenue, joined yesterday and said she had such an enjoyable time that she had plans to come every week.

Mrs. Edna Gathers is busy on several quilts. One is called the Tree of a Thousand Leaves which means that there are many leaves for applique and she looks forward to a busy winter with needle, thread, and quilt materials.

Mrs. Oscar J. Grode is busy crocheting a white lace basket. It is one of those which will be dipped in a solution to make it stiff. Maybe next week she will bring it all finished for us to see.

Mrs. Edna Moerschall reported that she called on Mrs. Margaret Mowatt in Women's Hospital and found her cheerful but not able to return home for a while.

Mrs. Belle Hardy wished to thank every one who sent her such lovely birthday messages.
