Needles for Defense
It's back to work for Needles for Defense.

The holiday vacation is over and Friday members will pitch in on a big program for 1942.

A new sewing project will be announced next week. In the meantime work on the piecework lap robes to be used in hospitals is progressing.

Ask your neighborhood tailor for coat and suiting samples which he no longer needs. They make handsome lap robes which are easy to put together and really warm when backed with cotton flannel.

Raid your own piece bag and your neighbors for wool scraps that can be cut into pieces for more robes.

Because this project calls for both collecting the scraps and stitching them together by machine afterwards, every member can have a hand in it. The pieces can be brought or sent to Needles for Defense, the Detroit News.
Of particular importance is the Needles for Defense work meeting to be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p. m. Friday in the Conference Room on the second floor of the News building. All members are invited to come and help sort scraps and cut them into pieces the right size for lap robes.

Be sure to bring sharp scissors to this meeting. They are absolutely essential for the job. Watch the women's pages of the news for further assignment.
