An Opportunity to Spread Good Cheer and Happiness

By Edith B. Crumb

When things get to running along smoothly some of us forget that there are those who are shut in and greatly need of just a little cheer. It is so easy for us to give a little thought to those who need it and means so much to the recipient.

A letter from Mrs. George H Finch, 20245 Danbury avenue, Detroit, set me to thinking about this, and I am going to print her letter, for I know you will want to do your part toward making her happy. It is as follows:

Dear Miss Crumb: Greetings to all dear friends and members of the Quilt Club Corner.

I cannot begin to express to you the joy that has come to me through all the kind friends I have met through the Quilt Club, and from the lovely letters from others whom I have not been able to meet personally.

I wish we might have a column every day. It is always so interesting and I know, sheds many rays of sunshine into the lives of many, especially our shut ins and afflicted members.

So many have been so kind in remembering our shut in friends I wonder if I, too, might ask a favor.

I have a very dear friend in Port Huron. She is nearly 80 years of age and is so crippled from rheumatism that she has not been outdoors in nearly four years, and now cannot even write but loves to read. I would like to have those members who wish to remember her. She is Mrs. Etta Betcone 2803 Connor St Port Huron, Mich. I would be glad to acknowledge all letters she receives as I go visit her.

I also had a nice letter from Mrs. John Seaman, Radersburg, Mont. Asking members to please remember her and Mrs. Dora McFarland (same address) Both are semi invalids and about their only pleasure is quilt-making.

If I am not already asking too much, I would be glad to have a Lazy Daisy patch.

First, I will say that the Lazy Daisy patch has been sent to you, Mrs. Finch and then that I am sure your shut-in friends will receive some notes and cards of cheer. There is no larger circle of kind hearted people than right here in this Quilt Club Corner, and they can alwys be depended upon to spread cheer, kindness, and good will.

Be sure to watch the papers every day for the Quilt Club corner for occasionally this is in more than three days a week. Yesterday there were letters and a membership list in, so you see it was in almost ever day this week.

Thank you for writing that nice letter, Mrs. Finch, and I hope that you will write to us again and let us know if Mrs. Betcone receives any mail.

Dear Miss Crumb: I have been visiting friends in Kansas and Oklahoma. I just returned in time to attend the Detroit News Quilt Show. It surely was nice and I enjoyed every minute I spent looking at so many pretty quilts. I was away so long I did not get my quilt finished to enter but I am still piecing quilts. Best wishes to all of the Quilt Club members.

We are certainly happy to know that you returned in time for the show. If you went ot the other two, I'll bet you planned to get home for it. Am I right? Now that you have returned I am sure you are looking forward to resuming your quilt work and exchanging patches and letters in the same old way. We wnt to hear from you occasionally so do not neglect us.

Dear Miss Crumb: I am sending in my name for membership in the Quilt Club Corner. I attended the last two quilt shows and did enjoy them so much. I have made the Flower Garden quilt and have had many compliments on it. I have sent the pattern to Vermont and Boston where some of my relatives are making quilts from this pattern.

I would like to make the Sun bonnet Babies quilt but am unable to find the pattern. Is it a Detroit News design? If not would it be possible to get it from some of the Quilt Club Corner members? I would appreciate any help you can give me.

No, that is not a Detroit News pattern and the only hope I can offer you is that perhaps someone who has this pattern will read your letter and be kind enough to offer it to you. I hope that you receive it for I know just how much you would like to have it.

It is interesting to know that Boston and Vermont quilt makers are using our patterns. Thank you for writing to us and do not wait long before writing another letter to us.

When the Double T Triangle quilt pattern was first issued, many, many quilters sent for it and have made beautiful quilts from this design.

Lately, there have been many requests for it so there has been a reprinting of this old-time pattern and now is your opportunity to obtain it.
