Women of the Club Have made 280 Quilts in Three Years
By Edith B. Crumb

Just before Quilt Club Corner meeting yesterday, Mrs. Louisa Shamburger 18253 Beech Road, Redford brought a quilt to the office to show me and I just knew that everyone of you would be interested in it too so here it is.

About three years ago Mrs. Shamburger organized the Redford Community Club with 14 members. This group meets once a week, always at the home of Mrs. Shamburger, the president, and in the last three years they have finished 280 quilts. MRs. Shamburger says that a quilt frame is always set up in her house so she can work on a quilt at any time she feels like it, thus accomplishing a great deal between club meetings.

Each member pays 10 cents a week toward thread and donates material and money toward other quilts. Some of the quilts belong to the club members and others are made for charity.

The quilt is called The Missing Plate, because there should be four plates but one is missing. The diamond shaped pieces represent napkins. The background of the quilt is a fine quality of unbleached muslin and the joining strips are green so are the napkins and the back is a lighter green. The plates are all colors and the designs in small patterned prints.

The Daughters of America are to benefit by this quilt which is to be raffled and the proceeds given to them for charity.

Mrs. Shamburger says that her grand daughter Emily Howell 5420 Ternes Avenue, Dearborn has eight finished quilts tucked away in her hope chest, so you can readily see that this is a quilt making family.

Mrs. Clara Moerscheill 20483 Cameron Avenue, Detroit brought a box of candy to meeting yesterday to help celebrate her birthday. She wants to thank every one for the lovely cards she has received. These have made her very happy.

Mrs. Wm Goodfellow 3784 Maxwell avenue and Mrs. Thos Sturdy 15084 Petoskey avenue, joined the Quilt Club yesterday and plan to come every week after they have had their vacation.

Mrs. Sylvia Carlen stopped in to tell us that she walked all the way to Wyandotte last Sunday and averaged about a mile in 15 minutes. She brought with her little Phylis Deneau 4175 Coplin , her grand daughter, who belonged to the Detroit News Cradle Roll, the Toddlers Club, and it won't be long before she will be a Quilt Club member. Phylis is just five years old.
Last week Mrs. Margaret Mowatt 9133 Hartwell Avenue brought her little four year old grand daughter Eleanor Mowatt who is making a quilt and may have a top finished for the show.
