Quilt Club Members Have Yule Party
Here is a group of happy Quilt Club members who gathered in the Conference Room of The Detroit News yesterday afternoon for their annual Christmas party. Songs, recitations and the opening of mysterious grab bag gifts filled the day.

Songs, Poems, Grab Bag Were Afternoon's Fun

By Edith B. Crumb

Yesterday the conference room at The Detroit News was filled with happy Cornerites celebrating Christmas by singing songs and giving recitations.

Mrs. Marian Ridler took the responsibility of acting as master of ceremonies and under her able direction the program went off smoothly.

Mrs. Cora Dempsey read amusing jingles that describe many of the Quilt Club members. Mrs. Eva Schaub said that Mrs. Dempsey had been weeks figuring it out. We all enjoyed it and appreciate her efforts.

The cast of the Henpeck Holler play sang a song which had been written by Mrs. Rose Alexander, and Mrs. Lettie McIntyre added an inspiring quotation. Mrs. Sylvia Carlen, Mrs. Mary Strobilius and Mrs. Eva Schaub sang solos and all joined in the choruses.

The grab bag kept everybody entertained for a long time - and you should have seen all of the interesting things that were done up in those mysterious packages!

Mrs. H. Wick, of Northville, surprised us by coming in costume and reading an original poem, after which she passed out quilt patches to all of us.

Kay Patterson, who wouldn't think of letting us down, gave her reason, in Swedish dialect, for not playing Santa Claus any more.

Mrs. Eva Schaub is planning to do something very special with the packages which were left over and I will tell you more about that later on.

Thre will be no more Cornerite meetings until January 4 and then I am looking forward to all of you returning on that date with serious resolutions about making new quilts for the next show.

There will be new patterns soon, but why not use your scraps and originate some patterns - just to show what can be done with what might otherwise be thrown away?

We had a new member yesterday - Miss Ida Deschke, 2653 Vernor Highway, and Mrs. William Hamilton, 5491 Inkster road, who has belonged to the Quilt club for some time, attended the meeting for the first time.
