A note of sympathy to a Quilt Club Corner member.
Message to Quilt Mother
By Edith B. Crumb

Tragedy has entered the home of one of our Quilt Club members, Mrs. W.R. Goodson of Monroe. Her stepson, Ray, seaman first class, went down with the USS Houston under Jap attack in the Sea of Java. Another stepson, W.R. Goodson Jr., is serving in the Marine Corps.

Mrs. Goodson was advised of Rays death by the Navy Department on March 14. He had enlisted in the Navy in 1939, was trained at a base at Great lakes, Ill and at San Diego and was aboard the USS Mississippi before being assigned to the American cruiser Houston.

Her own son, Roger Stevens former University of Michigan bandsman, is now the Rochester University School of Music under scholarship. Her husband who was employed in a Monroe paper mill, died a year ago.

With her family life so broken, Mrs. Goodson has closed her house on Elm street in Monroe and has gone to live with her mother, Mrs. Albert Seymour, 443 Arbor Street, Monroe.

To Mrs. Goodson goes our deepest sympathy.
