Big Needles for Defense Meeting to Be Held May 12

By Edith B. Crumb

In order that all members of Needles of Defense may become better acquainted we have arranged a meeting to be held on Tuesday evening, May 12, at 8 o'clock in the auditorium of WWJ-The Detroit News.

There you will hear reporst - but not the tiresome ones - for they will tell you the astounding amount of work you have done in such a short time.

S. L. A. Marshall has promised to talk to us and we hope that you will bring your husbands. There will be some interesting movies and a hint as to what will be undertaken by the Needles for Defense workers in the future.

The Club Room at Fort Custer will be reported on and we hope you will be interested in knowing just where the money which you helped earn and were so generous in donating is being spent.

It will be necessary to reserve tickets for the May 12 meeting. Just call Randolph 2000, line 555, and tell us how many tickets you wish and we will keep them with your name on them, to be picked up before the meeting.

If you wish you may call at the Detroit News branch offices in the Majestic or General Motors buildings or at the main office of The Detroit News.

There will be no charge for the evening but we are going to ask that you do this: In the lobby of WWJ-The Detroit News there will be a large box into which we wish everyone would drop something for the club room.

By this something we mean a package of cigarettes, packages of matches, chewing gum, playing cards, boxes of popcorn, or potato chips.

Everything in the way of furnishings has been purchased and now we want to put in the little extras. Your attendance at this meeting next Tuesday will help us to open the room with everything that the boys want to make it comfortable and homelike. Don't forget that they like chocolate bars.

By dropping your contribution into the box, you'll be doing something helpful. How about getting your husband to contribute cigarets, etc., too? He hasn't had a chance to knit or purl and has wondered many times, probably, why the dinner has been late or the biscuits burnt.

When he hears the report of the hundreds of sweaters, socks, pajamas and many other articles that have been completed in the short time that the Needles for Defense Club has been Organized, he'll begin to understand why your housekeeping may have been neglected now and then.
