Quilters Ask for Scraps

Here is a chance to help Europe's homeless in a big way, with very little effort. The call has already gone out for clean used, whole clothing, to be sent to the destitute people of Europe. Bedding also has been especially requested.

Members of the Flying Needles Club composed of former members of the Detroit News Quilt Club, with Mrs. Eva Schaub as chairman, plan to make quilts for the drive.

They are calling for donations of scraps of any cloth - cotton, rayon, wool, outing flannel, anything left over from garment or household articles, old quilts which may be cut down or used as filling for new ones as well as any bits of wool yarn of any color. With these they will make quilts for Europe's needy.

The Bradley Recreation Center, 3655 Concord avenue has been turned over to them for the purpose. They have quilt frames, will take their own sewing machines and make quick work of quilts for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Association.

The regular meetings are Wednesdays from 10 to 4 p. m. (each member bringing her lunch) but they will work as many days as necessary to utilize the scraps received. Anyone who wishes to help is invited and anyone who was a member of the Detroit News Quilt Club is considered a member in good standing anytime she wishes to attend.

Scraps may be left at the Women's Department of the Detroit News, Bradley Recreation Center, 3655 Concord avenue, at the residence of Mrs. Eva Schaub, 14046 Faircrest avenue, or at the residence of Mrs. Ivy Dunham, 12025 Turner avenue.

This group effort of expert needleworkers will appreciate any help offered.
