Store Holding Quilt Contest Thru Saturday

Quilts, old and new, modern and traditional, are receiving special attention at Mandel Brothers' State st. store thru next Saturday. The store is sponsoring a quilt contest, for which Chicago area homemakers are invited to bring in their favorite quilts, whether heirlooms or recently made, for judging at 2 p. m. Saturday in the store's home fashion center, 9th floor. A $200 prize will be given for the prettiest quilt; $100 for the most unusual, and $50 for the most intricate. Judges will be fashion editors of Chicago newspapers and Mrs. Harry D. Stoll, wife of Mandel's president.

Along with the contest, the store is staging a special showing of quilts for today's homes. A far cry from the quilts of grandmother's day, these feature new fabrics and permant colors not available years ago.
