A portion of a Beauty in the Home column describing a home featured in Good Furniture magazine and announcing the silhouette of a lady doing needlework.
By Edith B. Crumb
Those who dread the dreary weather days may still have a touch of the precious summer days by using bright colors in the decorating and sunshine of their homes.

In the accompanying illustration from Good Furniture Magazine is shown a room which has a real touch of summer.
The woodwork is in a soft gray, and because there is so little of it in the room, it is a background which tones down the schemes in general.

The glass curtains are of pale yellow voile, for this shade always gives the effect of sunlight through the windows regardless of the weather and the over draperies are of light green ground cretonne with large floral design in yellow, orange, blue, tan and green with a touch of lilac.

The floor covering is of grey Wilton and the slip covers of green linen, piped with black.
With this color combination it is not difficult to image how delightful the effect of the various colored book bindings would be.
The lamp shades are of parchment with a yellow cast, there landing a warm and cheerful glow.

Blue and Yellow Scheme
Dear Decorating Department I would like to have you help me with my kitchen which has been painted all white. The stove and furniture are also white but the latter needs repainting.

What color shall I use for this? The linoleum is blue gray and cream in checked design and this I can not change.
There is too much white in this room, so please give color for table chairs and canister set, waste basket and curtains. I am not very fond of blue furniture.
Mrs. M.L

Yes, there really is too much white in the kitchen to make it attractive in these days of colorful rooms, but you have made such a good background against which to use coloring.

Even though you do not care for blue furniture, perhaps you would not mind having it trimmed with blue, and so for the table and chairs, you might use a bright shade of yellow with a medium shade of blue.
Make the table top, seats of chairs, three inches of the lower part of chair and table legs and outer rims of chair backs blue and the balance yellow.

The curtains may be plain yellow...
