Beauty in the Home
By Edith B. Crumb

The importance of accessories, their selection and placing is shown in the accompanying illustration from Good Furniture Magazine and a careful study will give the home maker a good many ideas for the making of her living room more attractive.
Slip covers-those accessories of more importance- are made of a flowered material, the shadings of which have been used as a key note for the selection of all other small piece in the grouping.

The material from which the slip covers have been made as a warm yellow ground and design in rose, blue, lavender green and orange the seams being piped with green Stateen.

The circular pillows at the ends of the sofa are covered with green silk poplin, the seams being piped with yellow and the small square pillows are attractive with their covering of lavender taffeta quilted in a conventional design. The seams of these pillows are piped with yellow.

The small hot stools, which are so attractive are of cross stitch in wool, the background being green and the design in rose, lavender, lighter green, yellow and blue.

The grouping of the pictures is another feature which makes the room successful. By the use of the pair of mirror in combination with the four pictures, dignified balance has been preserved, and what might have been a bare wall space over the sofa is a very decorative note in the general scheme of the room.

The wall and woodwork of the room are finished in a deep shade of ivory, the yellow, greens, and lavenders being especially effective against this conservative back ground.

The base of the lamp on the table at the left is of yellow pottery, the shade being of black paper with a brightly colored floral design to harmonize with the slip soccer material.

Redecoration of Kitchen
Dear Decorating Department: Will you please help me? I want to redecorate my kitchen. At present is painted in two shades of gray and the linoleum is gray, green, and black in a checked design. The stove is black and white.
There are two windows in one casing in this room. Please give me suggestions as to color for walls, woodwork, breakfast set and curtains. The stairway to the basement is in the same color as the kitchen. I will greatly appreciate your help with this room.
Mrs. A.S.

The woodwork in your kitchen may be finished in a light shade of green and walls ivory. For the curtains use bright red trimmed with black. The interior of the cupboards may be finished in light green to match the woodwork and the shelves trimmed with red and white checked oil cloth scalloped across the bottom an bound in black.
