A portion of a Beauty in the Home column discussing a bedroom.
In the illustration is shown a room which is full of warmth and color, yet carried out with that touch which tones down the effect as a whole so that it does not appear garish.

The woodwork is ivory and the walls a warm parchment shade with just enough yellow to give richness.
For the floor covering a silvery green Wilton has been selected, and because this room is fairly good sized, the rug leaves a generous margin all around.

A rich ecru coile is the selection for the glass curtains, these being made with one inch hems, a three inch bottom hem and long enough black ground cretonne with a large floral design in bright yellow, jade green, chines red and just a bit of that bright blue that seems to lend a mystical touch by its contrast.

The end of the room is interesting with its furnishings placed in balanced effect, the sofa being covered in yellow and green slip covering material.

The pictures are hung so that the wires do not show, but it is well to remember that pictures hung rom the molding should be dropped on wires which run parallel with the wall lines. Often we see wire which is attached in the form of an inverted V but this does not conform to the architectural lines of the room, and the effect is very annoying as it has the tendency to center the vision on the hook, which is unimportant while distracting from the picture.

The desk has been wisely placed in this room, for it is so located that the sunlight falls over the left shoulder of the writer a moist satisfactory arrangement.

The center fixture and side lights have been omitted from the room, lamps attached to the floor plus being the only means of lighting this room.

Three Bedroom Schemes
Dear Decorating Department: I would like to have some advise on my bedrooms, concerning a scheme with a little expense as possible.

We have just moved in a new flat of my fathers which is not decorated at present, but the woodwork will be ivory and the walls any color I wish in both bedrooms. I have two boys over 10 years old and one four year old and their rooms there are two windows, one faces north, the other faces east. I have ruffled curtains for this room. They have an oak colored desk and dresser and walnut colored bed. What color could I paint these pieces that would be nice for boys.

In the other bedrooms there is a brass bed, a red cedar chest and a dark oak princess dresser, two windows face the north. I would like to use green in this room. What equipped with shades or shields of apricot chiffon and trimmed all around with a light green moir' ribbon binding.

Green would be very pretty for your little nieces room, and a light shade of rose would be lovely in combination with it. The walls would be attractive if treated with...

Runner Pillow and Four Mats
One of the most important of the small details which should be attended in the furnishing of a room, is the covering of tables. Whether the table, be large or small, it should be protected from scratches which might be occasioned by the scraping of objects laid on the table.

Protection is not the sole purpose of a cover, for it has a great deal of value as a decoration, and in the making of these we find opportunity for the choosing of harmonizing colors which bring out the beauty of the rooms.

This weeks leaflet has directions for the making of a table runner and five table mats of different shapes and sizes, any one o all of which would be unusually attractive in any living room.

And on other thing on the leaflet is a pillow to match the table runner. A pair of those would be lovely for tour living room sofa.
All of these articles are illustrated and the exact yardage of all materials is given, so the making of these is very simple.
Various color combinations are also given, as well as a wide choke of materials and trimmings.

If you would like to have these handy leaflet telling you how to make runner, table mats and pillow, just send your request for it to the Beauty in the Home Department, The Detroit News enclosing with it a self addressed stamped envelope.
