A Beauty in the Home column discussing ways to brighten a kitchen.
By Edith B. Crumb
Modern convenience is best suited, by a piece of the nature illustrated herewith.

This is a telephone stand and book case of excellent design. The right hand compartment takes care of all the telephone books. This is of importance because, although it is convenient to have these at hand, they are never to be found when wanted. They can be made a part of ones decorative scheme by being handsomely encased in lovely covers, which may be purchased in a gift shops or the gift departments of large stores or you may make one yourself.

If you would like to know how to make an attractive cover for your telephone book, perhaps you would be interested in a leaflet which this department distributes on that subject. To receive this leaflet just send your request for it to the Beauty in the Home Department, The Detroit news and please enclose with it a self addressed stamped envelope

The left hand compartment takes care of ones surplus books, tall and small. It will also be observed that the high of the lower section of this table proves convenient to rest ones elbows and the telephone upon, when speaking.
The table may be stained walnut or mahogany or it may be lacquered navy blue with an ivory lining or apple green trimmed with silver leaf.

Brightening Kitchen
Dear Decorating Department: I would like a little advice on how to brighten my kitchen. It is very old fashioned with gray wall paper, having an oblong design with blue and dark red shading into purple . The stove is black and white and the linoleum is blue, white and black.
I would like to paint my breakfast set and woodwork if necessary. The woodwork is gray.
Mrs. M.M.

The gray woodwork which you now have in your kitchen is as appropriate as any shade you might choose to harmonize with the wall paper.

The furniture may be finished in blue trimmed with black. Make the table top, seats of chairs, three inches of the lower part of chair and table legs and outer rim of chair backs black and the balance blue. The blue should be a medium shade of gray blue or one to match the blue in the linoleum.
