A portion of a Beauty in the Home column discussing kitchen paint colors.
Will you kindly suggest appropriate colors to paint the breakfast set and ice box, also what would you suggest for a curtain on the kitchen window, this being the only one and very wide?
Mrs. K

The ice box should be painted to match the woodwork and breakfast set may be finished in light yellow trimmed with blue (bright) The curtains may be of yellow and white checked gingham bound with blue.

Buff Woodwork
My kitchen has two windows facing northwest with a small window in the door facing north. The walls are light buff, also inside of cupboards. The breakfast set is emerald green. Please tell me what color to paint cupboards and woodwork. Would you paint the walls below chair rail a darker color? I don't care for red, blue, or grey.
Mrs. S LEB

The cupboards, woodwork, and walls below the chair rail may be painted in a darker shade of buff that the upper walls. These may be trimmed in green in such places as hardware, small shoe molding, next to the floor and bevels outlining the panels of the doors, and the window may have curtains of emerald green and white checked gingham.

Slip Cover Leaflet
Have you a leaflet on the making of slip covers? What color would you suggest for my living room suite? The living room is large (11 by 17 feet) with light tan flowered wallpaper having a tint of rose and blue. The rug is an all over pattern with shades of tan, brown, blue, rose, and green. The woodwork is natural oak finish.
Mrs. F.S.

This department has an illustrated leaflet on the making of slip covers and we will be glad to forward it to you upon receipt of your request.

There is no such thing as a pattern for a slip cover as each cover must be made to fit the piece on which it is to be listed. It is not hard to make slip covers, however, and by following this leaflet you will find that your task will soon be completed and your room greatly improved.

The sofa might be covered in a medium green ground cretonne with a floral design, and the chairs could have slip covers of striped material in shades to harmonize with the design in the cretonne. This is a better plan than having all three pieces the same.
