Laurann Gilbertson holds a BA in Anthropology and an MS in Textiles and Clothing, both from Iowa State University. Since 1991, she has been Textile Curator at Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum in Decorah, Iowa. The first exhibition she curated at the museum (in 1992) was of Norwegian-American quilts, and the topic has continued to intrigue her. Gilbertson's recent publications include articles in Vesterheim on tapestry artist Nancy Jackson and Norwegian designer Gerhard Munthe and in Piecework on the aprons Evelina Grimes made for her Apron Style Show.
