The News Annual Quilt Show Opens at Convention Hall
More than 2,000 quilts and spreads were exhibited when the fifth annual Detroit News Quilt Show opened at Convention Hall as a special feature of the Home Show. They filled the central unit of the hall.
These two helpers at the show couldn't help stopping to admire the pair of brother-sister quilts appliqued in bright colors on an ecru backgroundd.
Miss Alma Knudsen, Mrs. Frances Heinz and Mrs. Walter C. Pomeroy, judges, admired a quilt that was made by an Indian squaw. Bright colors predominate and the combination of flowers and patches is interesting.
Blanche and LaVerne, two hostesses at the show, have hung so many quilts that they can almost tell visitors where any particular entry is located.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Maher and Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Gorrill, of Toledo, were among the visitors to the show, which is being held during the same hours as the Home Show - from 11 a. m. to 10 p. m. today, Saturday and Sunday. Quilts from many sections of the country are on exhibition.
A quilt based on the design known as the Drunkard's Path, adds color and design to the entries around it. Some of the quilts at the show are old and have histories connected with famous names. Many are of the same pattern and yet entirely different in interpretation.
