Armenia Winchcomb's Lone Star is a catalog of family clothing.
Michigan; United States
The diamond shaped pieces that compose the star on this Lone Star comforter have been documented by the lender as having come from the clothing of members of Armenia Winchcomb's family.
For instance, the red fabric in the center came from a dress belonging to the maker's neice, Dora Monroe; the red-and-green plaid was a shirt belonging to the maker's father, John Winchcomb; and the mottled green print came from one of the maker's dresses. The background in a plaid wool blanket, which provides an interesting contrast to the colorful pieced star. The comforter is not quilted, but rather tied with red wool yarn.
