Tribute to Rose Marie - 2003 Opportunity Quilt

Redding; California; United States

The quilt blocks were made by members of the Tuesday Night Threaders who over the years became the Sunday Sew, a small group of quilters who met weekly, with most also members of the Quilter's Sew-Ciety of Redding. This quilt was made as a remembrance of a deceased member, Rose Marie Straw, who passed away in 2001. Laurie Short organized the project. She worked with each member to get a block of their choice made. Some blocks are pieced, some are applique and some are a combination of techniques. She reworked the layout of the blocks several times until it was just right. Laurie hand quilted all the blocks and Donna Jones did the machine quilting in the border.

After it was made, the Sunday Sew donated it to the QSR to be used as an Opportunity Quilt for 2003. It raised $2,254 for the guild.

In 2003, Sunday Sew members were Donna Jones, Judy Hafner, Edythe Goldsworthy, Scarlett Rose, Heather Rose, Jean Keyes, Emma Keyes, Martha Hilbert, Linda Gibbs, Ann, Mary Peard and Laurie Short.

Marty Beyer make a small quilt version of this quilt design as an award to the QSR member who sold the most tickets. It was not written down who won the small quilt!

The winner of the Opportunity Quilt was Harriette Resch of the Pacfic Flyway Quilters in Colusa, California. She loves it and has used it every Thanksgiving through New Years on her bed.
